My Morning Broth – protein, collagen, gelatin rich

broth for protein collagen gelatin midlife recipes

With so many of us lacking time in the morning to make a big breakfast, have you considered breaking your fast twice? First with a nourishing 3 minute cup of bone broth when you wake up, giving you the fuel you need to get out the door, do a school run, pop to the gym, run some errands. And then when you’re back home, making a nourishing breakfast when you have time to really enjoy it. That’s the idea with this morning broth. Here’s how I make it and how it supports your health. Another tool in the toolkit for healthy living!

I’ve been recommending early morning bone broths to many of late, so thought I’d make a quick explainer of how this simple, savoury drink can give you:

  • protein to stabilise your blood glucose levels, lift energy and enhance stamina
  • gelatin, collagen, glucosamine and proteoglycans for your joints, skin, hair and nails
  • something savoury to stimulate your stomach fluids and assist with digestion

….all before you leave the house!

If you’re not an existing client that’s ok. These are standard retail items and anyone can sign up for an account here to access my ‘Broths + Staples’ items. Just fill in your details and request my ‘Broths’ list, and order as you like.

This is an ‘on waking’ recipe which means:

  • It suits busy humans who have lots to do in the morning
  • It provides essential protein to midlife women who tend to skip breakfast
  • It keeps you going through a morning workout, and you can refuel after exercising without stressing about cortisol spikes and blood glucose dips

When you wake up, pop the kettle on. By the time it’s boiled you’ll have everything ready in your cup and you just pour and go. If you’re heading out, pour it into a thermos bottle and drink on the go. Sometimes when I’m working late I have the ingredients ready in my thermos, and I just fill it up with boiled water and drink on the drive home. It’s a long drive :)!

Make it more medicinal

I also like to add tumeric drops – the liposomal turmeric is the best one however it’s prescription only. If you’re a client of mine just request this from me directly. Here are some other things you can do to make this drink more healing:
  • Add 1/2 to 1 Tbsp apple cider vinegar to cleanse the blood
  • Add 1 Tbsp chopped oregano to support healthy digestive flora
  • Add a sprinkle of black pepper and a tumeric powder if you have sluggish digestion
  • Add 1/2 tsp cinnamon powder if you have sluggish metabolism
  • Add seaweed flakes for extra minerals
  • Add 1 Tbsp precooked (frozen) edamame beans for fibre and protein
  • Add 1/2 tsp miso paste for flavour and depth

As in the video, I mention avoiding fermented, canned and preserved foods if you have issues with histamine buildup or clearance. I have my clients on supportive products that reduce the symptoms associated with these states. You might like to book in if you’ve noticed you’re getting more and more food intolerances and you’d ideally like to address this.

Keep well!
