๐ŸƒIn clinic I see a lot of vitamin deficiencies ๐ŸƒIn clinic I see a lot of vitamin deficiencies and there are three that seem to always come up trumps as sub-optimal (too low). Over 90% of my perimenopausal patients are borderline low, low or deficient in vitamin D. Why you wonder? There are several reasons for this. In late perimenopause oestrogen levels fall and this makes it harder for your body to absorb vitamin D, so usually Iโ€™ll prescribe higher doses than whatโ€™s on the label. Vitamin D is important for bone health, but also new research is showing that oestrogen and vitamin D can work together to reduce the risk of metabolic syndrome in perimenopausal women. In a 2019 study researchers found that women with low vitamin D tend to also have low oestrogen (oestradiol). They also found that women with healthy levels of vitamin D tended to have better regulation of blood pressure, blood glucose and a healthier lipid profile result. Low Vitamin D levels are also associated with low oestrogen.
