Delicious + Healing Dog Gravy

Dog Gravy

Here’s a fabulously easy and delicious medicinal recipe for your pets, to enhance their nutrition, skin health and hair as well. Like us, our pets are having to deal with being exposed to lots of unfamiliar chemicals in their environments, even in the home. Their little (or large) bodies aren’t really well equipped to deal with this, but you can boost their vitality and feed them green-power with this Ayurveda inspired Dog Gravy.

Why make a Dog Gravy?

When my toy Cavoodle was having skin problems, I headed to Patty, a Pet Naturopath here in the Northern beaches. She’s moved since, but she put us on to Chlorophyll and we haven’t looked back. Since then, I’ve been supplementing Sweetpea’s diet to help her deal with the allergens in the environment and support her skin and hair health.

You can incorporate a bit of the holistic approach into your pet care too, by making up this simple and easy recipe for green, anti-inflammatory, calming and soothing gravy. Simply add a tablespoon to your pets food. I’ve used Melrose Fish Oil with vitamin D and Organic Flaxseed Oil, but you may have other oils that you prefer to use.

I also use an organic Chlorella which does stretch the purse a little. But you can also use Chlorophyll, which is available in health stores and even in the supplements aisle of most supermarkets.

Feel free to play around with the ingredients. I’ve kept the qualities of this recipe cooling and calming, because skin irritation and hair loss is a heat state, according to eastern holistic medicine. The herbs I’ve used will calm skin and nerves, and reduce reactive tendencies. You can add a little more, (maybe double the amounts), but don’t go crazy. Herbal medicines are strong, and consider the size of the body they’re working on.

The printable recipe is below. Okay let’s get to this video demo!

Nourish Skin, Hair and Soothe Nerves in your precious pet with this Ayurvedic Dog Gravy
Prep Time15 minutes
Servings: 20 serves

Equipment

  • 1 Mixing bowl
  • 1 Measuring Spoons and Cup

Ingredients

  • 100 mL Organic Flaxseed Oil
  • 100 mL Organic Fish Oil with Vitamin D by Melrose If you can't get this, ask for something similar at your local health store or look online. You can also omit this ingredient and use Flaxseed instead.
  • 1 Tbsp Organic Ashwagandha powder (Withania somnifera) Ashwagandha calms and tonifies, with a restorative aspect. Buy from Austral Herbs online in Australia, or your local Indian Emporium or elsewhere online.
  • 1 Tbsp Organic Baical Skullcap powder (Scutellaria baicalensis) Baical Skullcup is a fantastic anti-allergy herb. If you can't find it, you can omit this. Buy from Austral Herbs online in Australia or elsewhere online.
  • 1 Tsp Organic Turmeric powder (Curcuma longa) Turmeric helps reduce inflammation, boost digestion and restore the gut. Note the potent colour of my organic Turmeric, its worth buying organic.
  • 3 Tbsp Chlorella powder A necessity if you want a healthy pet 🙂 Store it in the fridge.

Instructions

  • Mix all ingredients in a bowl and store in an amber glass jar in the fridge
  • I use around 1 Tbsp per serve, but Sweetpea is a small dog (Toy Cavoodle). So aim for around 1Tbsp per 8 Kg body weight.

I love making recipes like this. Feel free to reach out if you have any questions or want me to put up more recipes for your pets. I trust from the way Sweetpea lingers when I grab the Dog Gravy Bottle that she’s into it! The bowl is LICKED CLEAN WITH GUSTO folks!
